Taking Steps

Central to understanding the role of ArtISability in the life of emerging artists is that our primary role is to connect our artists to their local arts community.

Our program develops artistic skills and professional skills to enable artists to be involved in the arts community.

Our program is based in the community itself. Each step of our program occurs in a different setting, preparing our artists for the real world.

At the commencement of the program artists are asked to put their hand up for ability as a commitment to do their best. Some artists will need more support than others to achieve their goals. It is not a race or competition, rather a journey . . .

A journey that looks at:-

  1. skills developing
  2. learning new skills
  3. making friendships
  4. connecting to other artists
  5. talking to other people who like art
  6. visiting art exhibitions
  7. entering art competitions
  8. visiting new places
  9. setting your own goals
  10. finding mentors and role models
  11. planning a art exhibition
  12. doing workshops
  13. learning how to present your work.
Our program is designed for
those already actively creating
art works and want assistance
to take the next step in
their art journey

Such as learning how to sell their
at work.

We can assist with

making phone calls
providing information
finding mentors,
classes and workshops,
connecting you to professional bodies,
meeting new people,
filling out forms,
organizing transport,
organizing and coordinating
support,
purchasing art materials
visiting places
reading and IT assistance.

We're Just Not Doing
Your Artwork For You!

So think about jumping
on board with us!

What does our program look like

ArtISabiliy

"Stepping into the arts community with you!"

Step One

Our Foundation Stone Program

Explores . . .

Skills development options
Building friendships and networks
What's available in our local arts community

Our March 2014 Exploring Colour Day One Workshop

.
Our programs aims to provide choice and flexibility based on individual ability and goals. Artists are asked to nominate the professional goals at entry point. Our program is not design for beginners or hobbists. We see our role as supporting artist's to achieve in their local arts community. Once artists complete of Foundation Stone Program, the automatically advance to our Stepping Stones Program.

Stepping Stones Program

Links participants to their local arts community based on learning supports.

"The Ipswich Festival"

Artists are encouraged to enter artwork produced during the Foundation Stones Program into local art competitions, such as the Ipswich Show Society or the Ipswich Arts Awards. We see our roles as assistant bridge builders as we explore what the access issues are  for that artists and how we can assist them to overcome that barrier.

Through out Stepping Stones Program James has exhibited his artwork, been assisted to complete paperwork, won first place in the Ipswich Show Society Art Competition, completed a workshop series at Turning Earth Ceramics, visited art exhibitions and assisted Debbie with marketing.  James is looking forward to joining in the unmasking of ArtISability in September and displaying the work he has already completed in the Stepping Stones Program.

ArtISability will assist people in our Stepping Stone Program with

Appropriate Learning Support
Transport Support
Professional Planning
Attending Classes and Workshop
Entering competitions and Exhibitions
Art related community activities

Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones Program

We are inviting participants
from our pilot program to
join our Stepping Stones Program.

Stepping Stones begins to

build bridges between

Our Skills Development Program

and

Mainstream Arts Activities

Judy Baker is one of our much loved tutors
at ArtISability, as a child Judy contracted polo
Judith Baker is well known and well loved in
The Ipswich Arts Community.

 ArtISability is not a destination!

Rather a train station along the
journey of artists with disabilities
can chose to visit and further develop
their artistic skills and industry knowledge.

The next train station artists can chose to visit
is Stepping Stones

Just as Ipswich Train Station enables you
to Access the Ipswich CBD

Stepping Stones enables artists with
disabilities to access the arts community
in the area in which they live.

For those who attended the March
Pilot Program that is Ipswich

We welcome  those who completed the

March ArtISability Program to

The Ipswich Arts Community

As Part of Stepping Stone you can chose to be supported to . . . Enter Art Competitions
Like that hosted by
The Ipswich Show Society
Exhibit and Sell Your Art
Be part of the Ipswich Festival

The Well Being Fair where Nick
From our program shared his passion for the Arts
and creativity as part of
The Ipswich Festival

Or like Clare you might like to continue

developing your artistic skills with support from us

Claire was our 2014 ArtISability

Bursary Recipient and is

currently working with Judith Baker

to develop colour selection in her art work.

Our skills development program which we

ran in March will become known as

Our Foundation Stone Program (FSP)

(A one off program)

Artist will then enter the Stepping Stones Program (SSP)

A train always is moving forward and our SSP

is about moving forward while still being supported

just in a way you might not be used to!

Its a bit like stopping at a new train station.

During Stepping Stones we will explore the
barriers to encounter in accessing the
local arts community. Or if you chose to travel
further afield we can support you to write
grant applications, find accommodation and explore
transport and how to meet your support needs while
you are away. We can also look at your on going
skills development program,
However once you complete our foundation stone
program there is no return train.
